TRIP TO MAGOEBASKLOOF/DUIVELSKLOOF AREA – 24 TO 26 September 2004.

By all accounts this event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who undertook this outing, and members were treated to gardens and fields which one would not be able to get easy access to.

Although the azaleas and cherry blossoms were disappointing and they were already past their best, the Orchid Show was magnificent.   One can see that the members of the Wolkberg Orchid Society are very successful in growing their plants, as their show gets to be better and bigger every year.

Field trips were also undertaken and indigenous species were spotted.  Sarel and Marita Spies and George and Ramona Short were kind enough to allow us access to their gardens and orchid houses, and George also guided us in a field trip to sight the azalea forest.

Pleasant social evenings were held when the day’s activities were recollected and many stories told!

If you didn’t make it this time, make sure that you do not miss out on the next outing.

WITWATERSRAND ORCHID SOCIETY SHOW

Tinus Oberholzer  was congratulated and thanked for erecting the beautiful stand at the show which was held at Emmarentia Dam at the end of August.  Our thanks also to Herman Steyn for offering to transport plants to the show and back, and to Pieter de Bruin for arranging to collect plants from members.    Members who contributed plants to make this exhibition a success were:

Herman and Ruth Steyn, Christo and Alet Page, Paola Copeman, Henriette Stroh, Hennie Peacock, Frikkie Marais, Claud Keytel, Stan Dawson and Pieter de Bruin.
