Frikkie Marais het ‘n baie interessante praatjie gegee oor die orgideë van die Iguaçu Nasionale park in Brasilië.  Hierdie park het ‘n lae elevasie kontinentale klimaat en is geleë op min of meer dieselfde breedtegraad as Pretoria en Nelspruit.  Ons behoort dus baie van die orgideë wat daar voorkom maklik hier te kan groei met minimale insette.  Meeste van die orgideë van hierdie gebied is miniatuur van aard en uiters geskik vir mense wat min plek het of van plante hou met klein blommetjies wat maklik tot vertoon plante gekweek kan word.  Baie dankie aan Frikkie vir die bruikbare inligting en asemrowende fotos.

The raffle plant at this monthly meeting, namely Laelia anceps x LC. Nitsi, was donated by Paola Copeman.  The new owner of this plant is Lorraine Espach.

Lede word aangemoedig om duplikaat plante te bring vir die verkoopstafel by die maandvergaderings.  Sodoende kan nuwe lede die kans kry om plante te bekom.

Members are encouraged to bring duplicate plants to the plant sales table at the monthly meetings.  This will give new members the opportunity to acquire plants.

 ONT Orgideeskou/Orchid Show– Brooklyn Mall

 The following report from Paola Copeman:

 "A very successful show was held at the Brooklyn centre.  We received nearly 120 plants from 12 members. The flowers were judged under the leadership of Christo Page and everyone helped to put up a very good display of a variety of orchid species and hybrids.

 A big thank you to all those who brought plants to the venue, and all the willing helpers, especially Marietjie and Emile Houghton, who spent most of the week-end at the show.

 Unfortunately, we only had 4 commercial plant sellers this time and Luzia from WOS, who sold books and orchid requisites, but the plants offered for sale were of a good quality and there was enough choice for all.

 The show winners were as follow:

Reserve Champion: Vanda Robert's Delight ‘Garnet Beauty’ FCC/AOS - owner Frikkie Marais.

Baie geluk aan Frikkie Marais met sy uiters leersame en uitstekend nagevorsde artikel oor Eulophia guineensis Lindl. wat gepubliseer is in die Junie uitgawe van Orchid Digest, Vol. 72-2.

Onthou asseblief om biblioteekboeke terug te bring na volgende vergadering.  Daar is enkele boeke wat reeds vir ‘n aantal maande agterstallig is.  Baie dankie aan die lede wat reeds hul agterstallige boeke terugbesorg het.

2009 Ledegeld/Membership fee

 Please be advised that your membership fee of R180 is due by the end of December 2008.  It will be appreciated if members could pay their fees promptly before the due date, as the SAOC fees (for the SA Orchids journal) are also due at the end of December.
