ORCHID SOCIETY OF NORTHERN TRANSVAAL: INFORMATION The Orchid Society of Northern Transvaal (ONT) was founded in 1968. The Society is based in Pretoria (South Africa) and currently has approximately 100 members, making it one of the largest orchid societies in South Africa. The aim of ONT is to promote the cultivation, hybridisation and conservation of orchids. The ONT annually hosts two orchid shows to share the pleasure of orchid growing with the public. The ONT meets once every month where experts in orchid growing are invited to share their wisdom with its members.
Members of the Orchid Society of Northern Transvaal (ONT) meet once every month on the second Tuesday evening at 19h00 for 19h30. The ONT-meeting is held at the Dutch Reformed Church Hall, Waverley East, Pretoria, located on the corner of Dickenson and Trumper street.
What happens at ONT-Meetings?
Every month the ONT invites a different speaker to present a talk accompanied by a slide show on orchid related topics. These talks are usually very interesting and informative, especially for newcomers to the hobby of growing orchids. At every meeting there is a plant table where members can buy and sell orchid plants. The ONT also has a very good library with a wide variety of orchid related books. Members are encouraged to bring their flowering plants to monthly meetings where qualified orchid judges evaluate the flowers and give some interesting information about the plant’s habitat, growth requirements and overall quality.
