Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 14 January 2001.

Ns 102mm; Ds 39x36mm; Ps 45x57mm; Ls 34x30mm; Pouch 23x44mm.

Two flowers on one spike; dorsal sepal pale pink with fine burgundy spots at base; petals white, peppered with burgundy; pouch white with very fine spots on the upper half; staminode bright burgundy; substance and texture good.

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 14 January 2001.

Ns 130mm; Ds 29x68mm; Ps 36x68mm; Ls 23x65mm; Lip 53x65mm.

Five very good sized flowers on one spike; petals and sepals an even porcelain pink; slightly open lip edged with lavender; the apex deep lavender and the throat yellow; substance and texture good.

AM/SAOC 82% - (A species from Brazil)

A National Award judged on 27 October 2001.

Ns 178mm; Ds 25x122mm; Ps 52x109mm; Ls 25x104mm; Lip 51x87mm.

Eight flowers on two inflorescences; petals and sepals pristine white; sepals recurved along edges; petals broad but also recurved along edges; lip dark magenta with white tip and beautiful dark magenta veins in white throat; texture sparkling; substance average.

Award No. 1261: Paphiopedilum mastersianum "Antwerp"

AM/SAOC 80% - (A species from Indonesia)

A National Award judged on 27 October 2001.

Ns 124mm; Ds 52x41mm; Ps 20x62mm; Ls 26x41mm; Pouch 27x51mm.

Two flowers on two tall inflorescences; dorsal sepal flat. apple green in centre fading to cream on outer margins; petals with central portion pale green shading outwardly to cordovan; pouch pale mahogany with very light veins; texture shiny; substance good.

HCC/SAOC 78% - (A species from East Asia)

A National Award judged on 27 October 2001.

Ns 152mm; Ds 33x50mm; Ps 15x75mm; Ls 28x31mm; Pouch 30x43mm.

Six flowers on one inflorescence; dorsal sepal base colour cream brushed lime green at base; spotted brown on basal half; petals lime green overlaid with brown spots on proximal half; light maroon on outer half; pouch lime green overlaid chocolate brown; substance average; texture shiny.

Award No. 1264: Polystachia vulcanica "TAM"

AM/SAOC 81% - (A species from Uganda)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 11 November 2001.

Ns 17mm; Ds 3x6mm; Ps 2x5mm; Ls 8x10mm; Lip 6x11mm.

Twelve flowers and one bud on nine inflorescences; four carrying two flowers each; sepals and petals cream with a hint of green, a pale yellow blush on the outside; lip smooth, raspberry colour from the inside; anther cap intense raspberry; good substance and texture.

Award No. 1268: Aerangis verdickii "Jaco"

AM/SAOC 81% - (A species from Africa)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 13 January 2002.

Ns 22mm; Ds 7x15mm; Ps 7x15mm; Ls 5x22mm; Lip 8x15mm; Spur 150mm.

A large well grown plant carrying seven spikes with forty seven flowers and eleven buds. Flowers typical of the species; petals and sepals gleaming; lateral sepals deflexed and twisted to face backward; lip deflexed and narrow with the margins slightly curved.

Award No. 1269: Polystachia pobeguinii "Mt Nimbus"

CHM/SAOC 84% - (A species from West Africa)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 13 January 2002.

Ns 15mm; Ds 4x6mm; Ps 3x5mm; Ls 15x10mm; Lip 5x6mm.

This flower compares very favourably with polystachia virginea for hybridising. The lovely open and shell shaped flower may improve the shape of another polystachia; clarity of colour is another advantage for further breeding. It has an interesting and strange pollination mechanism.

Award No. 1270: Paphiopedilum supardii "Rietvallei"

HCC/SAOC 77% - (A species from Borneo)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region.

Ns 63mm; Ds 35x47mm; Ps 85x78mm; Ls 28x43mm; Pouch 20x56mm.

Two flowers and two buds on a single inflorescence; flowers well spaced but the arrangement not too good; dorsal and synsepal greenish yellow with dark maroon striations; petals heavily warted with maroon; pouch light maroon with prominent veins; staminode greenish yellow with maroon hair; ovary long and dark maroon; bracts very large with the same striations as the dorsal sepal; substance and texture average. All flower parts of average size which precluded a higher score.

Three flowers on a 470mm inflorescence; sepals white lined with dark maroon; petals yellow with maroon lines and spots, flushed maroon in the apical half; pouch pale yellow flushed with pink and with darker veins.

AM/SAOC 81% - (SLC California Apricot x Laelia briegeri)

Four well presented flowers on a single spike; dorsal and lateral sepals bright yellow with a red overlay along the mid vein; petals wide with prominent red flushing; lip yellow with deep red on the mid lobe; substance and texture good.

Three large flowers on a tall inflorescence; sepals ivory lined with burgundy; petals yellow green with maroon lines and spots and flushed with maroon in the apical half; lip pale yellow flushed with pink and with darker veins.

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 10 February 2002.

Ns 99mm; Ds 24x45mm; Ps 14x109mm; Ls 27x40mm; Pouch 29x60mm.

Three well presented flowers on one inflorescence; slightly pinched dorsal sepal; white changing to moss green at the base; petals long and uniformly twisted with green veins at the top and tufts of short brown hair on the edges at the apices; staminode heart shaped, white with dark green center; pouch green with faint mahogany veins; substance and texture good.

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 10 February 2002.

Ns 82mm; Ds 23x33mm; Ps 39x39mm; Ls 27x27mm; Pouch 35x38mm.

One small but beautifully formed flower with a clear overall pink colour; dorsal sepal cream overlaid with pink veins; petals cream overlaid with blush pink; lip evenly coloured; staminode with prominent yellow colouring; a charming flower.

A single flat flower and one bud on a well held inflorescence; dorsal sepal white suffused with raspberry; lip rose, has an infortunate colour break; staminode very dark raspberry edged with yellow at the far end..

A single flower and one bud on an upright stem; dorsal sepal cream with pale pink markings; petals cream edged with rose and clear burgundy tasselations; pouch rose pink fading to white at the base; an attractive orange staminode.

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 11 February 2002.

Ns 68mm; Ds 7x44mm; Ps 5x38mm; Ls 6x50mm; Lip 23x50mm; Spur 240mm.

Seven non-resupinate flowers on one 450mm pendent inflorescence; sepals and petals olive green, pointed with recurving edges; lip clear white, round with a sharp tip; with a distinct twist; texture matte, substance very good.

Award No. 1281: Paphiopedilum Luna Moth "Mike's Choice"

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 10 March 2002.

One flower and one bud on a 259mm inflorescence; flower exceptionally symetrical with good presentation; general colour luminous apple green; dorsal sepal white with many fine apple green striations; petals luminous apple green with green warts and many fine hair on the edges; pouch luminous apple green with a darker green staminode; substance good; texture glistening.

One medium sized flower, dorsal sepal white with green striations with maroon pink on the sides; petals slightly floppy; green with maroon spots; edges pinched and cream in colour; pouch dark burgundy on the top and apple green at the bottom; staminode apple green.

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 9 July 2002.

Ns 71mm; Ds 38x34mm; Ps 38x42mm; Ls 21x29mm; Pouch 23x21mm.

A beautifully grown plant with many egg-shell yellow flowers; petals and sepals evenly spotted with fine burgundy spots; unusual to see up to four flowers on a spike; substance and texture very good.

Twelve flowers and one bud on one 170mm well displayed inflorescence; flowers ivory colour; petals with light pink margin; lip cream with light pink margin and an attractive dark pink blotch in center; flowers well spaced and elegantly displayed; substance average; texture sparkling.
