Award No. 1204: Laelia dayana

HCC/SAOC 78% - (A Species from Mexico)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 11 February 2001.

Ns 51mm; Ds 15x30mm; Ps 24x35mm; Ls 14x36mm; Lip 24x30mm.

One flower and two buds on a medium sized plant; petals and sepals very light pink fading to white; lip an incredible deep purple-maroon with very well defined striations; substance very good.

Award No. 1205: Paphiopedilum dianthum "Rietvallei"

AM

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 11 February 2001.

Ns 178mm; Ds 28x48mm; Ps 14x118mm; Ls 32x45mm; Pouch 28x51mm.

Two flowers and one partly open bud on an upright inflorescence; dorsal sepal white with green at the base; petals evenly revolute and symmetrically downswept with dark maroon calli at the base with a few hairs along the lower edge; a pleasing combination of light green; white and a maroon suffused pouch; substance and texture good.

Award No. 1206: Calanthe triplicata "Witrivier"

AM/SAOC 86% - (A Species from Asia and Madagascar)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 12 February 2001.

Ns 37mm; Ds 13x21mm; Ps 11x17mm; Ls 12x21mm; Lip 29x28mm; Spur 17mm.

Sixty-three flowers and twenty-seven buds on two inflorescences beautifully presented on a well grown plant; sepals and petals pure white and very well formed; lip pure white with contrasting bright red crest at the base of the lip; substance average; texture matte. a superior clone of this very widespread species.
