FUNCTION – SUNDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2004 This
function was held at the Scouts Hall in 29th Streeet, Villieria, and
we had a turnout of about 36 members.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was a great opportunity to swap orchid
news and meeting and getting to know members of the society better.
Our thanks to Bossie Bosman and his wife Bets for arranging the braai
fires, salads and ice cream which was enjoyed by all.
Christo Page took this opportunity to thank the members of his executive
committee for their hard work during the year and wishing all our members a
Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
We hope you all have a safe holiday and we are looking forward to your
attendance at our first meeting for the year in January. REGISTRATION

have received confirmation from the Department of Social Development that our
Society has been registered as a non-profit organization.
Our registration number is 036-068-NPO. PIETER
DE BRUIN’S FERTILISING PROGRAMME After
last month’s meeting some of you showed interest in Pieter’s Fertilising
Programme. His presentation has
been shortened here and only guidelines given. Pieter
follows a weekly programme from August to the end of April. He
believes in feeding “weekly, weakly” and
dilutes 6 to 15 times more than the manufacturer of the products
recommends. He
dilutes 1 : 1000 i.e. 1 gram in one litre or 5 grams in 5 litres. He
begins his programme on the last week in July
with Nitrospray plus, and also a weak solution of ureum.
(Please remember to add the ureum to the wet solution and not to mix the
dry ingredients) In
August he uses Kickstart
for the first week, and Nitrospray Plus the second week, repeating
Kickstart for the third week and Nitrospray plus for the fourth week. In September, in the first week he uses Calmabon, he uses Nitrospray plus the second week, Kickstart the third week and Nitrospray plus the fourth week.
In
October, November and December, he
uses Calmabon in the first week and Nitrospray plus for the second, third and
fourth week. Except for the fourth
week in December, he gives his plants a Christmas present
- “Folifert” diluted at 1 : 1000. In
January he uses only Nitrospray plus
each week. The
first week in February he lets his
plants rest, but gives them a good rinse out. The second week he uses
Fosfaspray, the third week Potasspray and Fosfaspray for the fourth week. For
the first week in March he gives
Calmabon (for the last time in this
growing cycle)followed by Potasspray in the second week, Fosfaspray in the third
week and Potasspray in the fourth week. In
the first week in April
he gives Fosfaspray, in the second week in April his plants get a
“Birthday present”(as it is Pieter’s birthday) which is Folifert. Followed
by the third week in April with Potasspray. The
fourth week in April, no fertilizer. The
first week in May he sprays with
Sporekill. From the second week in
May water is decreased and from June plants are only watered during the day and no later than
2.00pm. July the plants get a rest, and it all begins again in the last week
in July. Pieter
treats all plants in his collection in this way.
We congratulate Pieter for his kindness.
I’m sure not many of us treat our plants to a Christmas and Birthday
present! Should
this not be sufficiently clear, please contact Pieter de Bruin for further
advice. (See contact address below) ONT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CONTACT NUMBERS PRESIDENT
