Award No. 1124: Paphiopedilum Linet Hamman "Juanita" AM/SAOC 85% - (Dellaina x micranthum)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 30 July 2000.

Ns 109mm; Ds 40x46mm; Ps 36x59mm; Ls 35x41mm; pouch 36x76mm.

One flower and one bud well presented on a 220mm spike; dorsal sepal flat and large, deep pink; petals pink with deeper pink tessellations; lip a clean harmonious pink. An excellent cross.

Award No. 1153: Phragmipedium Vitta Bess "Red River"

AM/SAOC 82% - (vittatum x besseae)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 2 March 2000.

Ns 103mm; Ds 20x38mm; Ps 25x52mm; Is 24x32mm; Lip 24x40mm.

Two flowers on a 62cm inflorescence, dorsal sepal and petals flame red; pouch bright red heavily spotted on the inner lobes; texture and substance above average; large flower for breeding.

Award No. 1154: Miltonia Anne Warne "Alii"

CCE/SAOC 87% - (Bluntii x spectabilis)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 13 March 2000.

Ns 95mm; Ds 19x42mm; Ps 21x45mm, Ls 16x42mm; Lip 50x52mm.

Two hundred and sixty-nine large, dark purple flowers and forty-six buds on one hundred and seventy-three inflorescences; sepals and petals glistening purple with raspberry lip; magnificently grown into a huge 1.2m ball of leaves and flowers.

Award No. 1155: Paphiopedilum bellatulum "Herman"

HCC/SAOC 78% - (A species from Thailand)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 27 March 2000.

Ns 59mm; Ds 41x31mm; Ps 40x28mm; Ls 23x24mm; Pouch 18x25mm.

One large flower; dorsal sepal and petals typical of the species; spots on the petals are large whereas the spots on the dorsal sepal are small and closer together. Staminode charmingly spotted.

Award No. 1156: Angraecum eburneum longicalca "Witrivier"

AM/SAOC 82% - (A species from Madagascar)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 17 March 2000.

Ns 70mm; Ds 13x55mm; Ps 12x60mm; Is 12x55mm; Lip 70x40mm; spur 360mm.

Fourteen large flowers and 5 buds on 2 inflorescences; sepals, petals, spur and anther cap milky green with large pure white lip; thick waxy substance and glowing velvety texture; a huge, magnificently grown plant.

Award No. 1157: Paphiopedilum Makuli "Mary Baily"

AM/SAOC 82% - (Maudiae x sukhakulii)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 27 March 2000.

Ns170mm; Ds 61x63mm; Ps 26x85mm; Is 16x60mm; Pouch 31x66mm.

One large flower with white dorsal sepal veined with maroon and apple green centrally; petals apple green tipped with maroon and covered in black warts which are edged with hairs; pouch well proportioned and evenly plum coloured.

Award No. 1164: Paphiopedilum Makward "Halley"

HCC/SAOC 70% - (Makuli x wardii)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 12 June 2000.

Ns 111mm; Ds 44x50mm; Ps 18x61mm; Is 26x45mm; Lip 28x58mm.

One glossy flower on a 186mm inflorescence; petals dark rose greening towards the centre with well defined dark burgundy spots evenly distributed; dorsal sepal and synsepal with distinct green lines on a light background changing to pink periferally; pouch shiny mahogany.

Award No. 1165: Paphiopedilum Sanguine "Shiraz"

AM/SAOC 81% - (Lockinge x Queenanna)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 12 June 2000.

Ns 164mm; Ds 81x65mm; Ps 67x70mm; Ls 56x62mm; Pouch 32x50mm.

One stunning, really red flower on a 140mm inflorescence; wide, shiny dark red petals edged in yellow, slightly cupped dorsal sepal deep rose with narrow white border; petals and sepals lightly spotted towards the centre; lip shiny deep red; synsepal light green, burgundy on black.

Award No. 1170: Paphiopedilum Gary Romagne "Johnny"

FCC/SAOC 91% - (St Swithins x rothschildianum)

Judged by Transvaal/Freestate Region on 29 June 2000.

Ns 215mm; Ds 54x71mm; Ps 12x240mm; Is 49x67mm; Pouch 21x57mm.

Five well presented flowers on a 215mm spike, dorsal sepal and lateral sepals light beige with dark brown stripes, petals exceptionally long and straight with slight undulations at the base; the slightly narrow but long pouch gives a clear view of the synsepal, its base colour, beige overlaid with mahogany stripes. The good presentation of the large, but well balanced flowers and the beautiful colouring, contributed to the high score.

Award No. 1174: Dendrobium formosanum "Witrivier"

AM/SAOC 84% - (A Species from Thailand)

Judged by Lowveld Region on 4 August 2000.

Ns 93mm; Ds 20x52mm; Ps 43x50mm; Is 15x62mm; Lip 39x74mm.

Thirteen large and well formed flowers on three inflorescences borne on a clean, well grown plant; sepals and petals pure white; lip white with a golden yellow centre; substance waxy; texture matte.

Award No. 1193: Leptotes bicolor "Beretin"

AM/SAOC 81% - (A Species from Brazil)

Judged by Transvaal/Free State Region on 7 October 2000.

Ns 45mm; Ds 6x35mm; Ps 7x28mm; Is 8x35mm; Lip 10x21mm.

Twenty-seven flowers on nine inflorescences; sepals and petals milk white; lip white with magenta stripes basally with small pale green side lobes; substance good and texture luminescent; flowers considered to be larger than usual.
